About DinoPages

DinoPages is a reference to non-avian dinosaur genera. Every page is generated from one public dataset and shows only what that dataset records.

Data: The Paleobiology Database (CC BY 4.0). The genus list was retrieved from the PBDB taxa API for the clade Dinosauria, restricted to valid genera. Egg (oo) and trace (ichno) form-taxa flagged by PBDB were removed, and modern and Mesozoic bird genera were excluded so the site covers non-avian dinosaurs only. PBDB does not tag every bird lineage with class Aves, so genera were also cross-checked by taxonomic order and removed if they belonged to a recognised modern or Mesozoic bird order (e.g. Galliformes, Hesperornithiformes, Ichthyornithes, several enantiornithine orders) even when PBDB's class field read "Reptilia". This leaves 1606 genera.

What each genus page shows

Accepted name, the author and year who described it, its class, order and family placement, its first appearance and stage interval, its age range in millions of years, its ecospace diet and environment where PBDB records them, and its count of fossil occurrences. Each page links to the matching PBDB record as its citation.

What we do not do

We do not add sizes, weights, colours, speeds, behaviour, or trivia. If the database does not hold a value, the page does not show it.

Data freshness

PBDB is a live database: new genera are described and old ones get sunk into synonymy over time. We periodically re-run our own build query against PBDB and compare it to what this site currently publishes, so this page always shows a real, dated result below rather than a guess.
